Celestial Self Development is more than just a business. We are company with a heart; our vision is to continue to improve the lives of our employees and their families as well as of the local community and society at large. We are committed to meeting this responsibility with imagination, passion, and vigor and seek to align ourselves with the needs of our community.
Celestial Self Development Centre has been the local flag bearer for this event for the last 4 years and have held three such walks.
For 16 years, Vital Voices has invested in women’s leadership as a means to improve our world. VV identify women who understand that power expands the moment it’s shared and who choose to leverage their individual leadership for collective progress. Across cultures and generations, VV have seen that women leaders have a natural inclination to share talent, experience, wisdom and power. The Vital Voices Global Mentoring Walk embodies this act of paying it forward.
International Women’s Day recognizes women’s contribution to global progress and reminds us of the work that remains to advance women and communities everywhere. It is the ideal opportunity to demonstrate the power of women’s leadership and unite women in support of other women. The walk is designed to bring together established women leaders and emerging women leaders to provide mentorship, guidance and support that will empower emerging women leaders to succeed. Through the Vital Voices Global Mentoring Walk, mentors and mentees come together to walk in their towns and cities, sharing challenges and solutions and forming supportive bonds that foster growth, confidence and leadership. The global mentoring walk takes place every year in March in commemoration of International Women’s Day.
Vital Voices Global Partnership is the leading non-governmental organization (NGO), based in the US that identifies, invests in and brings visibility to extraordinary women around the world by unleashing their leadership potential to transform lives and accelerate peace and prosperity in their communities. Its international staff and team of over 1,000 partners, pro bono experts and leaders, including senior government, corporate and NGO executives, have trained and mentored more than 14,000 emerging women leaders from over 144 countries in Asia, Africa, Eurasia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East since 1997. These women have in turn trained and mentored more than 500,000 additional women and girls in their communities.

“Raise A Reader SLU® campaign was first launched by the company in January 2013. Since the inception of this initiative Celestial Self Development Centre has rolled out the program to eleven schools in the city of Castries and environs. During the first year of the campaign book donations were made to eight pre-schools in the Sans Souci and surrounding area with the assistance of the public and Project Education based in New York, through Mr. Jeremiah Hyacinth. In 2014 books were donated to the Holy Family Children’s Home in Ciceron on behalf of the winner of the 2014“Summer Reading Challenge”, Mr. Dave Charles. In 2015 the campaign donated books and also partnered with Saint Lucian born author Lovely Sheridan and hosted a Story Time session with students attending the Canon Laurie Anglican Infant School. We continued last year with a donation of books to the Marchand Combined school and also held a story time session with the Grade K students of that school.
We value the transformation nature of books and realize that introducing literature and a love of reading can produce powerful change in a child’s life. It is our goal to ensure that every child has the opportunity to cherish a book of their very own.
About the Campaign
The “Raise A Reader SLU®” campaign is an opportunity for us to all help ensure that the importance of reading is emphasize in children as early as preschool years. Our mission is to provide new and gently used books and literacy support to the children attending Preschools in the Sans Souci and surrounded areas. The “Raise A Reader SLU®” is aimed at children up to 5 years old and operates like a book drive. In addition to supplying free books to the children, The Raise A Reader SLU campaign will offer informal literacy support such as readings and story hours.
